What is Hidden Thread?

An escape room the size of a town.

A puzzle game you play outdoors, on foot, with your friends. The clues are hidden in real places, the answers are right in front of you and the clock is running.

In short

You and your team walk a real place. Every clue is a puzzle with the answer hidden somewhere you can stand and look. Crack it, collect the piece, follow the note to the next spot and beat the clock.

Ring a bell?

If you've done one of these, you're halfway there.

  • A bit like

    Escape room

The puzzles, the clock and the team shouting answers at each other. Minus the room.

  • A bit like

    Treasure hunt

Out and about, hunting for things. Except every clue has a trick to it, so there's no list to tick off.

  • A bit like

    Walking tour

You'll see the place properly, up close. Only nobody tells you what you're looking at. You work it out.

What's in a game

Four things to know.

  • Clues

Each one is a small puzzle with a twist. Work out what it's really asking, then find the answer on a sign, a wall or a statue nearby.

  • Notes

Solve a clue and a short rhyming note points you to the next spot. It won't name the place. That would be too easy.

  • Pieces

Every answer is a piece. Find them all to finish, and watch the count go down as you go.

  • Nudges

Stuck? Take a Nudge for a push in the right direction. It adds a little time, so pride has a price.

Why it's good

What you'll get out of it.

  • The 'got it' moment

Ten minutes of staring, then someone sees it. Nothing beats it, and you'll get it more than once.

  • A place, seen properly

You'll notice things you've walked past for years. Locals are usually the most surprised.

  • Everyone plays

The game is on every phone, so nobody's left holding the bags while one person does the puzzles.

  • A proper challenge

Clever, fair and against the clock. Easy enough to start, hard enough to brag about.

How we make them

Written on foot.

Every game starts with a long walk. We photograph what's there, then turn the signs, stonework and odd little details into clues. If you can't stand there and see the answer, it doesn't go in.

  • We walk it

Every step of the route, more than once, in all kinds of weather.

  • We look closer

The best clues come from things most people never notice.

  • We test it

Real teams play it before you do, and we fix whatever trips them up.
